hosting a party

How many of us have experienced it recently?  Missing a much anticipated get together with friends; battling with the indecision of whether to cancel or postpone an event and worrying about the possible implications of gathering with friends and family.

It’s kind of taken the fun out of things and whilst some of us have cracked on, embracing virtual parties with a determind stiff upper lip, there really is no replacement for seeing people in real life, hearing their laughter and sharing the same space.

So, how do you mark those special moments in life in these new times of social distancing?

As a well known and popular venue for parties and events, we’ve taken a long hard look at how we can help you to create the same memorable experience whilst hosting your friends and family in style and peace of mind.

Space to roam

The Lodge event space at The Great House was designed to accommodate wedding receptions and celebrations of up to 200 guests, which gives you an indication of the room proportions and the sense of space now that maximum capacities for social events have been reduced. Innovative partitioning enables The Lodge to be configured into different sized rooms for private dining and parties, all with inspiring views of the river.  Large doors can be flung open to bring the outside in and furniture is an attractive mix of formal and informal seating for a welcoming atmosphere aimed to keeping your guests comfortable.

Take the party outside

We’re fresh air freaks here and will do everything we can to be outdoors; step onto the terrace and within moments you will be on our riverside lawns, bordering the Thames Path. Arrive at your party by boat and you’ll really get the neighbours talking!

Coppa Club

Oh, the joy of having someone else do the cooking & pour the wine! All you need to do is decide what type of menu you prefer and we’ll do the rest. If you’re a regular at Coppa Club, you’ll be familiar with the European menu of fresh salads, grilled mains and hand stretched sourdough pizzas. For private parties, this menu is extended to include all manner of culinary delights, or we can roll out the most impressive BBQ and get grilling.

Let me entertain you

Many may be breathing a huge sigh of relief that dancing is off limits for now, but for those who like  live music to get the party started, we have trusted partners who can provide a little ambiance without breaking into a nightclub vibe.

Steph Willis has played at several Coppa Club launches and many of our weddings and knows just how to create the right mood, or bring your own musician or DJ to create the mood you want.

Talk to us

Our Events Team have bags of experience in creating memorable celebrations, from private dinners to birthday parties, engagements to anniversaries. We have adapted our own unique style of riverside entertaining to welcome you back to doing what you love with the people that mean the most to you.

We are keeping a close eye on government guidelines around people gathering together and offering flexible terms for added reassurance, should plans have to change.

Latest update from The Great House

Open for business

The Great House Sonning is very much open for business and we have been delighted by the number of people choosing to spend their staycations by the river with us so far this year.

Thank you to our guests & visitors, our teams & suppliers for getting behind the new health & safety procedures with a smile and continuing to make the hotel a fun, relaxed and great place to be.

Keeping you safe

As we enter a new phase of Government legislation, we want to reassure you of our continued commitment to keeping you safe during your visit and also outline what the latest changes mean for you when you visit us. For full and up to date information, please visit gov.uk/coronavirus

10pm curfew in the restaurant & bar

Coppa Club bar & restaurant will be closed from the 10pm Curfew, at which point non-residents will need to make their way home, and hotel guests retire to their room. Whether you are planning brunch, lunch or dinner, we suggest going online to book your table at Coppa.

Wear a face covering in public areas & register your details

When you visit us, please wear your face covering in all public areas and also be aware that everyone is required to register their details with the new NHS Test & Trace app. This is easily done using the QR codes available throughout the hotel and Coppa Club.

Weddings for up to 15, meetings for up to 30

Although our partying may have been curtailed for a while, we are still hosting small weddings for up to 15, meetings for up to 30 and private dining for up to six. Our large riverside event space, with doors out on to the terrace and filtered air-conditioning lends itself perfectly to socially distanced, private events (and dare we say it – Christmas gatherings!) and you are in safe hands with our team. So, if you are looking for a change of scene and somewhere to catch up with friends or colleagues, speak to us about what’s possible.
